Y Ballarat Life Membership recognition for Wallace Martin

December 3, 2024 Our People

Wallace Martin, our amazing ReCranked Coordinator, was recognised with a Y Ballarat and Y Ballarat Youth Services’ Life Membership for his outstanding contribution over the last 19 years.

Wal commenced his Y journey working across a range of Youth Programs including Connect Camps and youth groups. He’s now the incredible driving force behind the ReCranked bike recycling program and its phenomenal growth in popularity and impact.

Wal has been pivotal in the program since its inception over 10 years ago, and has overseen its expansion, supporting a strong volunteer team and distributing thousands of repaired and refurbished bikes. These in turn, have changed lives locally, in areas affected by natural disasters and in overseas communities.

Thanks to Wallace’s dedication and passion, so many people now have transport for accessing education and employment, or wheels for exercise, recreation or to connect with others.

A much valued and enthusiastic team member, Wal embodies the Y’s values. He’s always happy to lend a hand, and his friendly and respectful approach makes everybody feel welcome and valued.

The award celebrates Wallace’s hard work and commitment and also recognises his lasting legacy. Congratulations Wal! We’re so lucky to have you as part of the Y!

The Y acknowledges the Traditional Owners of Country throughout Australia and their continuing connection to land, sea and community. We pay our respects to them and their cultures; and to Elders past, present and future.
