Inspired young artists

June 2, 2021 Event
At the Y, we believe in the power of inspired young people and this was certainly in evidence at the Y’s National Youth Week Art Exhibition.

Held at Barkly Square, home of YMCA Ballarat’s corporate offices, the exhibition showcased the work of 44 inspired young artists aged 12-25, and ran for most of April. It included 75 pieces featuring a wide variety of styles, media and subjects and many items sold during the month.

A celebration event held on the 20th April, was attended by the proud artists who were joined by over one hundred friends, family and supporters. Local young musicians, Tommy J and duo Primo Primates provided entertainment at the gathering. Young people reported that the Exhibition had acted as the impetus to develop and refine new skills, had increased their confidence and also inspired them to undertake studies or pursue work in the creative sector.

The Y would like to thank all those that joined us at this Celebration, our partners Ballarat Community Health, BGT and Sonika and most importantly, the talented young people who exhibited.

The Y acknowledges the Traditional Owners of Country throughout Australia and their continuing connection to land, sea and community. We pay our respects to them and their cultures; and to Elders past, present and future.
