Executive Manager of Children’s Services, Vicki Dobson, was invited to present at Deakin University’s 2023 Early Childhood Conference to share insights on establishing bush kinder and building in nature-based practice in early education programs.
With over 10 years of embedding nature pedagogy into our programs at Y Kinders, we’ve developed a deep understanding of what’s involved. We’ve also overcome a few challenges and busted a few myths over the years!
Vicki outlined key learnings from our broad experience of implementing bush kinder and nature play, which were well received by the audience of graduates and conference delegates.
“It was really great to see so many graduates from across the state at the Conference and witness their passion for early childhood education,” Vicki said.
I feel privileged to have been able to share the insights and work of our Y Kinders teams, who over the last few years have put a real focus on incorporating nature pedagogy into their programs.
At Y Kinders we recognise and value the incredible benefits for children in connecting with nature and learning about our natural environments. These opportunities can be built into programs through the establishment of a bush kinder program or through making the most of landscaped elements in yards, creating special play spaces or accessing local parks,” she explained.
“It really is about having a strong commitment to nature pedagogy and looking at what you can do today and also what might be possible in the future.”
