Calling young creatives! Submissions open for National Youth Week Art Exhibition, Ballarat

February 25, 2022 Young People

As part of the celebration of young people during National Youth Week, the Y Ballarat along with BGT and Ballarat Community Health are pleased to be hosting an art exhibition in April.

Young people aged 12-25 are invited to register and submit their artwork, with the Exhibition open to all skill levels and pieces created using any medium.

Now in its second year, the exhibition provides young people with the opportunity to showcase their work, gain exposure and potentially sell their pieces. Launching during National Youth Week, it will be open weekdays at Barkly Square, 25 Barkly Street, Ballarat between 9am – 5pm, and run 4th April – 2nd May, 2022.

An Exhibition Opening event will be held on Monday 4th April at 5.30pm with an invitation extended to the wider community to join in with the young artists to celebrate their achievements. A selection of the artwork will also be for sale.

Artistic Excellence and Highly Commended Awards will be presented at the Opening event. Additionally, a People’s Choice Award will be based on the votes of the Ballarat community made during the Exhibition.

“Last year’s Exhibition really highlighted just how important having these opportunities to be recognised and share achievements are for young people,” said Larelle Kuczer, Youth & Community Impact Manager. “We’re hoping that this year we will have even more artwork to display. We welcome art from all young creatives, whether they are just starting out or have been creating artwork for some time.”

“Barkly Square is also a great community space and backdrop for the Exhibition and we’re really looking forward to showcasing the amazing talents of local young people,” she added.

Last year’s exhibitor, Jasmine, aged 16, found that the Exhibition provided a focus for her to develop new skills. She enjoyed having others view her work and received many positive comments both at the celebration event and afterwards and also sold a number of her pieces.

Submitting artwork

Registrations are now being taken via an online application here. Pieces should be ready to exhibit, light and easy to move and are being accepted until 5pm, Friday 28 March.
