Calling young artists: a showcase to shine!

March 24, 2024 Young People

Our Y Ballarat Youth Art Exhibition is on again! We’re inviting young creatives to register and submit their artwork to display at our upcoming exhibition at Barkly Square, Ballarat.

Building on the success of previous years, we’re hoping to top the 82 pieces that were shown last year, which were created by 36 contributors.

Now in its fourth year, it provides a fantastic opportunity for young artists to showcase and sell their work, and also to enjoy the celebratory Opening Night on the 19 April.

Submissions open until 10 April, 2024

All skill levels and mediums are welcome! Registrations and submissions are being accepted from young people aged 12-25 until Wednesday 10 April and can be made via this link. Or find out more here

Three Awards

This year there will be three awards, the Y’s Choice, the Artist’s Choice and the People’s Choice, each with a $100 prize.

The first two will be announced at the Opening Night, with the People’s Choice decided from a public vote and the winner notified at the conclusion of the Exhibition.

Taking the plunge: an experience worth repeating

The event provides a positive and supportive environment for young people to show their work, and to see it on display in an exhibition setting, alongside a diverse range of pieces.

Winner of the People’s Choice Award last year, Hayley Chivers, especially enjoyed the Opening Night and the experience of a packed room of people celebrating the creative talents and work of the artists.

She cannot recommend the experience enough to others, saying, “It is an amazing opportunity to take your hard work and passion and show it off to everyone, there is so much talent in our community. Don’t hide yours away! Show it off and be proud!”

Support our local young artists

The Exhibition will be open between 19 April – 2 May, between 9.00am – 5.00pm, Monday – Friday at Barkly Square, 25-39 Barkly Street, Ballarat.

Entry is free and everyone is invited to come along, to support those exhibiting and be inspired by their talents.

The Y acknowledges the Traditional Owners of Country throughout Australia and their continuing connection to land, sea and community. We pay our respects to them and their cultures; and to Elders past, present and future.
