ReCranked volunteer wins national award

November 23, 2021 Community Impact

Congratulations to Nigel Crosby, from our ReCranked program, who has been announced as the Y Australia’s Volunteer of the Year!

During his involvement with the ReCranked bike recycling program for close to 7 years, Nigel has supported young people in Ballarat to connect and develop their skills in a safe and empowering environment.

Nigel’s continued commitment to  the ReCranked program over the past year has seen him continue to be available at the ReCranked shed restoring bikes and supporting young people (around the COVID lock down periods). In everything he does at ReCranked, Nigel lives by the Y’s belief in the power of inspired young people. He naturally supports young people to learn new skills, to be heard and to provide them with a comfortable place to participate and feel part of the team.

As a key member of the ReCranked team, Nigel has also restored and refurbished hundreds of bikes leading to increased accessibility for many vulnerable community members who now have a form of transport and access to physical exercise.

Nigel also volunteers in other areas of the Ballarat community where he contributes his time, skills, experience and wisdom.

We thank Nigel for his hard work and dedication over the years and are excited and proud to see him recognised with this award!
